MJC Provides ERV Upgrades for a Local Fire House

Recently, an area firehouse reached out to us about making changes to their heating and air unit. Their current system was a 5 Ton Trane Split System, and while this is a great HVAC system, it was still not what they needed to meet their specifications. Because of our knowledge of heating and air units, the MJC team was able to redesign the Trane system and make their standard factory split system a fully custom design, complete with energy recovery capabilities, which can compete with an Aaon 100% OA Unit!

Offerings Provided by MJC:

1.       Energy Recovery Unit Built onto the AHU. Specific duct connections required for Top RA and Bottom OA

2.       ERV & AHU built onto a common base frame

3.       MJC provided VFD on the Factory Supply Fan

4.       Hot Gas Reheat to meet LAT

5.       MJC Added 50MBH Heater / Heat section on top of the AHU for top supply

6.       APR Rawal Valve installed on the Trane CU for capacity control

What is the Air Turnover Unit and How Does it Help?

We work hard to ensure that every piece of equipment offered goes above and beyond the industry requirements so that you get the best service possible. It is with that goal in mind that we offer the MJC Air Turnover Unit.

Never heard of an Air Turnover unit? Then allow us to explain it to you. An Air Turnover unit is a large air handler, used to supply and return large quantities of air without ductwork. The process is simple – a mass of air is discharged at or near the top of the space and the same quantity of air is returned from floor level. The air mass exchange results in a turnover of space volume. This design gamf.net makes heating and cooling large spaces more effective and efficient for spaces such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, super mario distribution centers, and indoor sports training facilities.

The ideal application is to use fewer, larger units for both heating and cooling applications. Doing so results in the following benefits:

As compared to unit heaters an air turnabout unit uses:
· Less natural gas, hot water or steam piping
· Fewer electrical circuits
· Fewer vents and roof penetrations for gas fired heating
· Less labor

As compared to conventional heating and cooling systems the air turnabout:
· Fewer units
· Fewer electrical circuits
· Less natural gas, hot water or steam piping
· Fewer roof penetrations
· No ductwork
· Fewer condensate drains

Energy Savings from an Air Turnover Unit

The primary energy savings from an Air Turnover unit is from fan brake horsepower. Conventional Roof Top units use forward curved fans and Air Turnover normally uses airfoil prop fans. Since an Air Turnover unit is not ducted, there is less overall static and less fan horsepower is needed.

· FC fan operating at 2.00” TSP = 25 HP
· Airfoil prop fan operating at 1.2” TSP = 15 HP
· 40% Reduction in fan HP.
